Core Values of Bakerview Church
These core values define who we are as a church. We believe these values are biblical and therefore foundational for developing vision for our ministry. In our humanness we do not always live up to these values and also recognize there are aspects of our core values that are aspirational. By God’s grace we commit ourselves to be a church family that holds to and lives out our core values for His honour and glory.
Family of Faith
We are a family of faith, united as one body in Christ, committed to loving one another and bearing each other’s burdens. As a church family we affirm the Confession of Faith of the Mennonite Brethren Church. We endeavour to live as faithful disciples of Christ, passing our faith and distinctives to future generations. Romans 12:4 - 18; Ephesians 4:1 - 6; Galatians 6:1 - 2; Psalm 102: 18 & 28; 2 Timothy 1:5
Biblical Teaching
We strive to teach God’s word with clarity and authority so that people will come to know the Lord, be strengthened in their faith and equipped to serve as faithful disciples of Christ. The Holy Spirit guides us in understanding and interpreting the Word. John 8:31; 2 Timothy 3:16; John 16:12 - 15
Gifted for Service
We encourage each other to use our Spirit-given gift(s) in witness and Christian service through our church ministry programs, mission assignments and in the community. Ephesians 4:11 - 13
Missions and Service
We are committed to share the gospel internationally by encouraging and supporting individuals whom God calls to use their God-given gifts in witness and Christian service. Christ commissioned the church to make disciples of all people, baptizing them and teaching them to observe his commandments. Matthew 28:18 - 20; Acts 1:8
Evangelism
We encourage one another to be a witness for Christ in word and deed so that our family members, friends and neighbours will come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour. Local outreach ministry programs for all ages call people to follow Jesus Christ as Lord. I Peter 3:15 - 16; Philemon 6
Worship
We live our daily lives in worship before God. We gather in our worship services for renewal - to praise, to be encouraged, to pray, to listen and to learn. Music, drama, readings, prayer and the spoken word express our praise, adoration, prayers and beliefs. In our worship we use a variety of musical genres as a means of expressing our diversity with the vision to minister to a broad spectrum of people. Romans 12:1 - 2; Psalm 29:1 - 2; Ephesians 5:19 & 20
Prayer
We practice the discipline of private and corporate prayer as a means of supporting all aspects of the church's ministry. Matthew 6:9 - 13; 2 Chronicles 7:14
Congregational Polity
We practice a congregational polity, which values the input of all members in vision building and decision-making. The Church Council and Pastoral staff work as a team to shape the vision of the church and to provide spiritual oversight. The members commit themselves to pray for, to encourage and to willingly follow the leaders they have called out. Acts 6:1 - 6; 13:1 - 3; 15:1 - 35; 2 Timothy 2:2; Titus 1:5 - 9; Hebrews 13:7 & 17
Mission Statement
We, the people of Bakerview Church, are disciples of Jesus being transformed by God’s Word and Spirit. We commit ourselves to faithful stewardship of our gifts and resources as we share the gospel with, and serve the people of Abbotsford and the world.
