We have numerous ways, now and throughout history, of persuading another person that we will uphold our commitments to them. When this gets super formal, some will want us to swear by something that is important, like our grandmother’s grave … or the Bible!
I am convinced that at the root of all the problems in our world is a lack of love. Maybe that isn’t a very profound thought, but bear with me. As I’ve played around with this thought throughout my day, I’ve begun to look at situations around me with this in mind.
Can you experience God’s love if no one loves you?
I do not ask this question because I think there is a worthy controversial debate here. I ask because I am very interested in the practical reality of understanding God primarily through God’s creation – or perhaps we might say through God’s revelation?
Connie and I both grew up with some traditions that are really strange. When we picked cucumbers from the garden, we cut off the end and rubbed it until we saw what looked like white foam emerging on the edges. The goal was to remove the bitterness. If only there was a way to do this easily in our lives.
